Director's Message

October has always felt like a month of change. The leaves begin to turn, the air gets a little cooler, and we naturally start thinking about what comes next. That seems especially fitting for the Delmarva Discovery Museum right now.

But this month, I don't want to tell you what I think the future should look like, I want to ask you. The Museum belongs to this community, and if we are going to plan for the next several years, I want to know what you would like to see when you walk through our doors.

What would make you say, “I can't wait to go to the Museum”?  Would you like to see more children's programs?  More programs for adults?  More hands-on activities?  New exhibits? Special events?  Evening programs?  Educational workshops?  Maybe you have an idea that we've never thought of or there is an event you've attended somewhere else that you wish we would hold.

Maybe you have brought your children to the Museum and thought, “I wish they had…”   Or maybe there is something we are doing that you absolutely love and want to see more of.

We want to hear all of it.  Not every idea will be possible, but knowing what interests our community helps us make better decisions about where we put our time, energy and resources.

We are already working on new ideas for programs, exhibits, partnerships and events, but before we start filling the calendar, I want to hear from the people we are here to serve.

So, I'm asking you to help us answer a few questions:

What programs would you like to see?
What kinds of events would bring you through our doors?
What exhibits would you like to see?
What would make the Museum more exciting for your family?
What would make you want to come back again and again?

Send us your ideas.  We genuinely want to hear from you.  Don't be shy.  Dream big.  Give us your crazy ideas.  Some of the best ideas we've ever had have come from people who simply walked through our doors and said, “You know what would be really cool?”

So, as we head into the final months of 2026, I hope you will continue to follow us on social media, support us, volunteer with us, bring your families, send your students, share our story and, most importantly, dream with us about what this Museum can become.

The best part of our story isn't behind us.  It's still being written.  Let's write it together!
