East Meets West is Returning!

A promotional flyer for "East Meets West" features event details and cultural motifs in the foreground against a gradient orange and green background.

Originally founded and developed by Lynnette Kissoon several years ago, East Meets West was created to celebrate and explore the connections between East Indian and West Indian cultures through food, music, traditions, storytelling and shared experiences.

After a bit of a hiatus, we’re excited to welcome Lynnette to the Caribbean Hub team and work alongside her to bring East Meets West back with additional organizational support and resources. And thanks to support from Canadian Heritage, East Meets West will return in December.

Save the date — more details coming soon!

Read our new Community Safety, Harassment & Safeguarding Policy

We created this policy to establish clear expectations around respectful behaviour, consent and boundaries, harassment and inappropriate conduct, and how concerns can be reported and addressed.

It applies across our community — from participants and volunteers to staff, contractors, performers, vendors, partners and guests.

Community. Respect. Safety. We all have a role to play!

Supporting the Goldiet Family

Our community is mourning the sudden passing of Mary Goldiet, a longtime community member and the wife of William Goldiet, President of the African Heritage Association of Vancouver Island (AHAVI).

Mary was a mother of five and spent many years supporting our community and advocating for human rights in Canada and Lebanon. Her passing leaves a tremendous loss for her family and those who knew her.

Community members are coming together to support the Goldiet family during this difficult time, and fundraising options have been set up for anyone who would like to contribute.

If you are able, please consider donating and supporting the family.
