Don't let misinformation confuse you - always look for trusted news sources and if something seems wrong - check multiple sources before believing it! We're very excited about our first program of the season which comes on Wednesday, November 18th at Sundial. Chris Holland, Appellate Partner in Holland and Knight will be sharing a focus on the US Supreme Court. He'll take a look back at the 2025/2026 Session, a look forward at 2026/2027 and maybe most important the infamous "Shadow Docket". Over the last year the Supreme Court has remodeled our democracy in ways large and small. Understanding the key cases from the past docket and looking into what we expect to see in the current year can help all of us understand and anticipate what is next. Register for this important session here. Our next program brings back the always engaging lawyer and legal scholar Philip Lacovara to share his thoughts on America at 250. Philip will take a look back and a look forward - using his extensive experience at the forefront of our democracy to help us understand both the good and bad, uplifting all of us as defenders of our Democracy. Register for this important session here. A NOTE ABOUT OUR NEW REGISTRATION SITE: We have moved to a new Registration system so you can pay in advance with a safe and secure website. Zeffy, the tool, is free for non-profits like the LWV and provides great communication and event management capabilities. Paying in advance means no scrambling for checks or cash when you arrive! Please do see that Zeffy asks for a donation when you register much like GoFundMe and other non-profit tools. You can accept what they suggest or change it to a custom amount (including Zero). LWV of Sanibel receives none of the donation to Zeffy (we have added a separate line if you wish to donate to the LWV of Sanibel's 501(c)3 ). Looking ahead, we have a full season of programs that will engage & educate you in our "Democractic Experiment". · On January 14, Professor Pable Rueda-Saiz from the Law School of the University of Miami will focus in on War Crimes with “The Boundaries of Battle: Understanding and Redressing International War Crimes”.
· In February, we will be holding a Candidate Forum for the Candidates vying for the 3 open City Council positions. Look for the date to be finalized as we get closer to the end of the Year.
· On March 11, Allie Pecenka from SCCF will join us to discuss “Shifting Protections: 2026 Environmental Legislation Updates” to help us understand how changing Political winds are impacting our ability to ensure the health of our local environment.
· And finally, in April, Gary Chesley will join us as we look at the Evolution of Public Education in the era of AI and Changing Politics. We look forward to seeing you and hearing your thoughts and questions at all of our programs! In League, Cathie Now, more than ever, we need each other and we need the League of Women Voters. Thanks for being part of this organization! ![]() |
