August at Paws of Promise

August was a busy month for Paws of Promise! Between new animals coming into our care, community events, adoption applications, vet appointments, and preparing for everything we have coming up this fall, there has been a lot happening behind the scenes.

This month, we welcomed three kittens and two puppies into our care — five more little lives depending on our foster homes, volunteers, donors, and community to get them ready for their next chapter.

Meet Our August Intakes

Acadia, Denali & Glacier

Our three “National Park” kittens — Acadia, Denali, and Glacier — joined Paws of Promise this August and have been keeping their foster home very busy. They are about 3.5 months old!

All three needed the normal care that comes with getting kittens adoption-ready, including vaccines, spay/neuter appointments, flea prevention, microchipping, food, litter, and other supplies.

During Acadia’s veterinary care, a minor heart murmur was detected. To make sure she was healthy and ready for her upcoming spay appointment, we also paid for an additional proBNP heart screening test. Thankfully, we were able to get her the extra testing she needed and keep her care moving forward.

And we have some exciting news: Acadia will be going home with her adopter on September 4!

That still leaves two very special boys waiting.

Denali and Glacier are still looking for their homes. Denali is our quieter, shy boy who has been making progress at his own pace, while Glacier is the more adventurous and playful of the pair. Both are ready for families who will love them for exactly who they are.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a kitten to your family check them out!

Bowie & Joplin

August also brought two puppies into our care, Bowie and Joplin, as part of a much larger intake involving nine puppies and an adult dog.

With help from other Vermont rescue partners, all of the dogs were able to find placement, and Paws of Promise took two of the puppies into our foster program.

Both puppies already have pending adoption applications, which we are incredibly excited about!

Even when an animal finds an adopter quickly, there are still significant expenses before they can head home. Food, vaccines, preventatives, veterinary exams, spay/neuter care, supplies, and other medical needs all add up quickly — especially when several animals arrive at once.

August in the Community

We had a great time getting out into the community this month!

At Tractor Supply Co. Animal Days on August 15, we raised $100 for Paws of Promise.

Then, at RT’s Car Show on August 30, we raised another $106.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our tables, talked with us about the rescue, participated in our fundraisers, donated, or simply took the time to learn more about what we do. Community events are an important way for us to raise funds, connect with local pet owners, and spread the word about the resources available through POPs.

Need Affordable Pet Care? Check Our Resources Page

One of Paws of Promise’s goals is helping people access information that can make caring for their pets a little more affordable.

We’ve created a Pet Resources page on our website with information about services available to Vermont pet owners, including:

  • Low-cost spay and neuter programs
  • Low-cost vaccination options
  • Community veterinary resources
  • Other programs that may help families access care for their pets

We know veterinary costs can be overwhelming, and sometimes simply knowing where to start is one of the hardest parts.

Thank You for Supporting Paws of Promise

August reminded us just how quickly rescue can change. Five new animals came into our care, kittens headed to vet appointments, puppies found interested families, we attended community events, and we continued working to connect Vermont pet owners with resources.

None of it happens without the people who foster, volunteer, donate, share our posts, attend our events, adopt, and support our mission.

Thank you for continuing to help us keep pets safe, cared for, and moving toward the homes they deserve.
