![]() August 16, Newsletter ![]() First PTO Meeting RecapA lot is already happening around Lineweaver. Principal Georgelos shared that enrollment is currently at 488 students, with new teachers in nearly every grade and continued support from arts integration and music specialists. Third graders will be starting recorders this year, and the school is looking at what it would take to bring choir and honor recorders back. More information will come after the September 9 Site Council meeting. Staff are also being asked about leading before and after-school clubs, and cross country should be getting underway by the end of August or early September. On the PTO side, Fall Festival planning is officially underway for November 13, and there will be plenty of opportunities to help with planning, volunteering, or supporting the event. Families were also reminded about simple ways to support the school through Fry’s Community Rewards and Box Tops. The PTO approved support for Literacy Connects Reading Seed program by Lisa Gordon and the Lineweaver Garden by Jennifer Metzler. Our next general meeting will be September 9 at 6:00 PM on Zoom (Zoom link has been fixed, I promise) Did You Know? The PTO does more than host events and fund new programs. We also work closely with school administration, teachers, and our Family Engagement team, led by Mrs. Higgins, to help when needs come up during the school year. This week was a great example. After Family Engagement saw a higher-than-usual number of requests from students needing backpacks, they reached out to the PTO for help. We were able to secure 75 new backpacks for Lineweaver students, helping make sure more kids have what they need to come to school ready to learn. Support like this is only possible because of our Lineweaver community. Every fundraiser, donation, spirit wear purchase, and PTO supporter helps give us the flexibility to step in when our students and staff need it most. Creating a Bike Bus![]() We are working with Living Streets Alliance to see if there is interest in starting a bike bus to Lineweaver! A bike bus is a group of students and families who ride their bikes to school together along a planned route, picking up additional riders at designated stops along the way. It is a fun way to get to school, build community, and make biking feel safer and more comfortable for families who may not want to ride alone. Right now, we are only gauging interest to see whether enough families would like to participate. If this sounds like something your family might be interested in, email us at lineweaverpto@gmail.com and let us know!
