Director's Message

What a Summer!

As summer comes to a close, I find myself looking back over the past few months with an incredible sense of gratitude as we watched the Museum come alive in ways that were both exciting and deeply meaningful.

Since reopening on May 30th, we have welcomed thousands of visitors through our doors, filling the Museum with the sounds of children learning, families exploring, and people making memories together.

One of the most exciting parts of this summer has been watching people reconnect with the Museum. Former visitors have returned with their children and grandchildren. Teachers are planning field trips. New families are discovering us for the first time, and our memberships have grown with many old friends renewing and even more new friends joining.

Our special programs brought families back again and again. Our calendar was full of summer field trips and special programs. “Shark Week” was once again a huge hit, attracting nearly 800 visitors, and the two programs presented by the MD Science Center were terrific.

As we head into fall, we aren't slowing down. We are continuing to improve our exhibits, develop new children's programming, expand educational opportunities, and find new ways to make the Museum exciting for every age. We have ideas that we've been dreaming about for a long time, and now we are beginning to turn those ideas into reality.

There is still so much ahead of us, and we hope you’ll continue to be part of it. Please visit us and bring your families. Bring a friend who has never visited. Become a member. Attend a program. Shop in our gift shop. Tell someone about us. Consider making a donation. Follow along with what we're doing and share our story. Help us keep the Museum growing, thriving, and inspiring for generations to come.

Here's to an incredible summer—and an even more exciting fall!

With sincere gratitude,

Christy Gordon

Executive Director
