Here’s What’s Happening at
St Vincent De Paul Archdiocese Of Santa Fe

Volunteer Appreciation Month

At SVdP we are neighbors helping neighbors. We don’t have a large staff. We carry out our mission of providing loving and compassionate person-to-person assistance through the dedication and heart of caring people, motivated by faith, giving generously of their time.

This Volunteer Appreciation Month, we say a heartfelt THANK YOU to the 1,000+ volunteers that show up to care for our community members. We see you, and we appreciate your commitment to house, feed, clothe, and advocate in partnership with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Archdiocese of Santa Fe.

New to SVdP?

If you're a new volunteer, partner, or donor (or just a curious community member) here's a little bit about us...

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Archdiocese of Santa Fe is a lay Catholic organization that exists to deliver loving and compassionate person-to-person assistance in building a path out of poverty. We serve all, primarily in the areas of food provision and homelessness prevention. Our services are low-barrier, culturally responsive, and equity-based—as residents from an area are positioned to serve their neighbors.

Our organization works across much of New Mexico through a network of 39 local SVdP Conferences (chapters) at local parishes. Each Conference is made up completely of volunteers. These volunteers each distribute assistance to their regional communities through relational visits where they get to know the community member and the need firsthand. Through rental assistance, utility help, food, and clothing, these SVdP volunteers carry out the work of keeping people housed and fed. Of these 39 local aid groups, 19 have formal food distributions.

Last year, SVdP distributed $2M in rental and utility assistance and $3M in food essentials with 98,000 neighbors in need benefitting from our support. Our volunteers invested 65,000 hours in helping to keep their neighbors housed and fed through more than 33,000 person-to-person visits.

2026 Highlights (So Far)

Hunger Action Day

In an event organized by Roadrunner Food Bank, we joined leaders from all of New Mexico's food banks as well as food distribution partner agencies at the Roundhouse to advocate for food access for every person and family in our state.

Food Distribution

We are honored to serve many rural towns in NM classified as food deserts. Our La Joya Conference distributes food boxes every third Tuesday to residents of Sabinal, Abeytas, Bernardo, La Joya, Las Nutrias, and Veguita.

Toiletries Drive

Our St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Conference held a toiletries and paper goods (tissues, toilet paper, paper towels) drive for neighbors in need, as SNAP benefits do not cover the purchase of these essential items.

The families we visit are pleasantly surprised when we walk into their homes with a shopping bag of goodies; so, this SVdP chapter hopes to make this an annual project.

Lives of Service and Faith

Our Queen of Heaven Conference recently held an event to honor volunteers who have served with SVdP for 25 or more years. What an inspiration! Congratulations to all of the awardees, who stand as examples of lives of service and faith!

A Story of Hope

Ms. Margaret is a retired school teacher who is known and cherished in the community. Though many have been blessed by knowing and learning from Ms. Margaret, most days she does not make it out of the house, as she has health and mobility limitations.

When Ms. Margaret reached out to our team, she had a simple request—her hot water heater needed repair. Because our model for mission is based upon visiting with our neighbors in order to get to know them and hear more fully about their needs, when we got to her house, we discovered that Ms. Margaret actually needed much more than just a new water heater. You see, her water heater had broken down; however, it had then leaked all over the floor of her trailer home. This damage seemed to have happened some time before she connected with us because, by the time our volunteers visited with Ms. Margaret, the floors of her trailer home had rotted and holes had formed, exposing the ground below.

Thanks to Ms. Margaret’s call to our Helpline and to our model of visitation and relational connection, our team was able to support Ms. Margaret with repairs to her floor and her water heater—enabling her to remain in her home for what we hope are many years to come.

Invitation to Partner

The work of meeting people where they are with hope and heart is not solitary work. We do it together. We must.
