As spring arrives, the farm awakens—the garlic shoots are our first joyful sign of the new season. After a winter of planning and dreaming, it’s wonderful to step outside and start growing again.
DIG Farm exists to reconnect people with the soil, fresh food, community, and the simple power of growing with our hands. This year, our work expands beyond the fields with exciting new programs and partnerships.
We’re thrilled about our growing programs in Mt. Vernon through local partnerships, hands-on gardening, cooking, and food systems experiences to youth and families—building skills, creativity, confidence, and connection to healthy food—plus the launch of the new Mt. Vernon Farmers Market as another vibrant space for fresh food, local farmers, and community gathering.
At the farm, we proudly launch the DIG Farm Youth Academy, where young people explore exciting pathways in growing and foraging food, preparing creative meals, crafting natural first aid remedies, and diving into agriculture, culinary arts, herbalism, wild basketry, homesteading skills, community leadership, and more.Classes count toward homeschool unit points, and dedicated participants can earn a Certificate of Completion. If a student creates a product that passes evaluation, it could become part of the new Dig Farm Coop—promoted and sold at markets!
We keep providing access to nature through our Access Nature Project—free outdoor programs to underserved communities, people with disabilities, and families of limited means, so all can experience the healing benefits of the land.
Through our homeschool partnership with For the People and Kids, we offer immersive outdoor learning for young children, tied to nature, food, and seasonal rhythms. The same organization hosts our summer camp at the farm this year—joyful days of exploration, skill-building, and outdoor friendships.
Join us for classes, workshops, volunteer days, and community events. We’re especially excited about two upcoming community events in April—with details and flyers listed below!
We invite you to volunteer at the farm, in Mt. Vernon gardens, or in community kitchens.
Together, we build a stronger local food system and spaces for reconnection. Thank you for being part of this journey—your support helps these seeds grow far beyond the fields.
With gratitude,
Allison
