An election for new board members takes place during the AGM in August.   This year’s awards for CJSR shows and volunteers were handed on July 16, 2026. The nine custom golden records (handcrafted by Program Director, Chad Brunet) recognize the volunteers who make the station go. LISTENER CHOICE AWARDS Favourite Music Show Award | The Dave Finkelman Award  The Award is named in honour of Dave Finkelman. The founding host of the CJSR show Big A, Little A and musician from experimental post-punk band, Energetic Action. He was tragically killed by a car while crossing Whyte Avenue on January 27, 2014. Favourite Spoken Word Show Award  Moving Radio Hosted by Christian Zyp, Lindsay Campbell, Lucas Anders The show covers local, Canadian and independent cinema. Favourite New Show Award  Buried Frequencies Hosted by All Metal Tammy The show unearths emerging and underground metal, from here and afar. Favourite Show Host Award  Heavy Metal Lunchbox's Tall Brian Fridays at 12-2pm MT Tall Brian hosts an all-out metal feast every Friday. Favourite Show Co-Hosts Award  what do we know co-hosts Brian & Patrick A weekly mix of music anchored by a theme and hosted by two music professors at the University of Alberta. RECOGNITION AWARDS Rookie Volunteer of the Year  Riley Perreault Riley has contributed more than 30 volunteer hours this year, helping in the music library and ad production. He has been working at CJSR over the summer as the Production Assistant where he’s been building his radio skills and bringing his creativity to all he does. Veteran Volunteer of the Year | Gary McGowan Award  An award named in honour of former CJSR station manager, Gary McGowan. He was instrumental in CJSR getting our FM license.  John Huck He hosted the newly-retired, award-winning show, Sunshine after Dark — the one-hour journey into disco aired on Thursday nights. John also gave his time and attention to overseeing the station on the Board of Directors, First Alberta Campus Radio Association (FACRA). He was the treasurer for two years before stepping into the president role. Under his stewardship, John helped guide the organization through major changes in staffing and equipment upgrades. Throughout his time at the FACRA helm, he provided steady and fastidious leadership. Thank you, John! 10 Years on the Air Award  A whole decade of THIS IS POP with Benny Blitzkreig Pop. Wednesdays at 2-3pm MT The fast-paced, layered, dynamic expertly-produced hour-long music program is dedicated to pop culture, pop music and anything fizzy. Congrats and thanks to Ben for his continued commitment to making one-of-a-kind radio that delights and surprises the listener. Cutting a Rug Award  From Here We Go Sublime host Piyush Patel / DJ Gulzar Tuesdays at 7-8pm MT DJ Gulzar always delivers top notch dance moves along with his weekly curated eclectic mix of emerging and established musical acts. You can see his moves LIVE on his Instagram @PiyushP87 during his radio show.  On Air Wednesdays at 5pm MT CJSR has launched our new weekly current issues and news panel centred in Alberta’s capital city. It brings together locals “in the know” with honesty and curiosity.
