Serving as Missions Mobilizers

"The Kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. The Mystery of the Kingdom

For many years, I have been fascinated with the scriptures surrounding the "Kingdom of God / Heaven". Every time Jesus brings up this topic, He paints such a deep and profound picture. Here are just a few examples:

• Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
• The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
• No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
• To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.

It's in the midst of all these truths that I find myself humbled to learn what it takes to be "successful" in ministry. We often think that success is defined by victories or growth. But the reality is that success in the Kingdom of God is to simply live faithfully, trusting that it is God who is at work. He makes everything happen in His own timing, with His own mighty hand. He gets all the glory, and we just get to take in his majesty as He works through our weak and feeble bodies.

If you've ever wondered what it is like to be in the ministry of missions mobilization, this is it exactly: Things don't always make sense, but we do them anyways. Plans don't always go our way, but we rejoice regardless.

Without the right mindset and a healthy heart posture, one could easily throw in the towel and call it quits. But you know what keeps a Christian going? The voice of the Lord as He calls and guides you. His Holy Spirit leads us ever so faithfully and we simply get to go along for the ride, enjoying the scenery as we see Him at work. Again, He gets the glory because He did all the heavy lifting. King Jesus is worthy!

Transition of Seasons

If you missed our last newsletter, let me remind you that Cherrybee, Amaryah, and myself have been in the United States since late September. Our time in the Philippines, which lasted almost 8 months, was a slower season, and one involving heavy refinement, yet fruitful nonetheless. We made some great connections and partnerships while there. We anticipate God will continue to allow these to bear fruit with each passing season.

While in the United States, we have been able to reconnect with friends, family, and ministry partners alike. We hit the ground running with a TUSFY course just days after landing. Still under the effects of jet lag, we powered through, relying on God to give us strength. We were able to partner with Bret Johnson of the Hastening for this course. Max Petersen and Chai Jordan served as facilitators as we conducted this course for a small, yet influential group of missions mobilizers with Frontiers.

Special Project

During this season, Tim Sanford and I (Ryan) have been working on a special project. While, it's not quite TOP SECRET, the contents and name of the project are being kept under wraps until the right time to divulge the finer details.

What can be shared is that we have been collaborating and praying through the process of creating a new type of course to serve as an additional mobilization tool. If you've been following us for any amount of time, you're probably familiar with the Kairos Course and The Unfinished Story for Youth. We pray that what Tim and I are working on will inspire every-day Christians to take a deeper look at the worthiness of Christ and respond in a Biblical way that's mindful of the time we have left here on earth.

Notable Mentions

Phoenix Trip
In November, we were able to take a trip to Phoenix to attend the MissionConnexion Southwest conference. This is an excellent conference that is free to attend and features diverse workshop tracks, many ministry exhibitors, and powerful speakers at the plenary sessions. This was our 3rd year in a row attending and each time, we are blessed beyond belief.

We are planning to attend their Portland conference in January and have been invited to conduct a TUSFY course while there.

Denver Trip
Our family was able to take a trip to Denver to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. We were hosted by the Honsberger family, who has been in ministry for decades. Their specialization is evangelization, especially to those who are of different religious beliefs and those who are involved in cults.
It was a blessing to be able to visit with them and hear of their ministry experiences. Pastor Bill even allowed us to sit in on one of their monthly ministry meetings with the organization he founded and leads.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of our Denver trip was when we attended a local church service. Cherrybee and I were introduced to a long-time ministry partner of some friends we have who are serving as missionaries in Hong Kong. Because of this introduction, there may be an open door for future mobilization courses and trainings to be conducted there
