Madison Public Library Highlights
PAMANA Exhibit on Social Media

Last week, the Madison Public Library gave PAMANA a shoutout by promoting the Filipino American History Month exhibit, which currently runs at the Central Library.

PAMANA Exhibit at Madison Public Library

The library's Facebook and Instagram posts wrote:

"On the second floor of Central Library, visitors will get a special treat this month thanks to PAMANA! We're hosting a photo exhibit and accompanying book display highlighting the importance of the Filipino people and culture in shaping the American way of life.

"Through photographs and illustrations from Philippine and U.S. archives, viewers walk through the journey of Filipinos in the U.S.—from their arrival on October 18, 1587 (long before the Mayflower Pilgrims), to the contribution of the vibrant Filipino community in Wisconsin. They see a glimpse of the first Asian settlement along the bayous of Louisiana in the 1700s; understand both countries' heightened relationship during the American Colonial Period in the Philippines (1898-1946); and realize how Wisconsin's higher education and the Filipino community helped sift and winnow each other's ideas."

A similar exhibit also currently runs at the Edgerton Public Library. We urge you to visit and spend time learning about the history of Filipino Americans, as part of our celebration this month.

PAMANA Fiesta @ Rock County

Everyone had a great time during last Saturday's outreach with the Rock county community!

Library patrons and attendees learned a ton about Filipino culture through our pop-up booths on Filipino American and pre-colonial Philippine history, hands-on lumpia rolling and (feets-on?) tinikling dancing, and a special demonstration on the Philippine martial arts arnis. They were also wowed by the PAMANA Alab Dancers with their signature bulaklakan dance.

A Filipino fiesta would not be complete without Pinoy food and snacks. We would like to thank our supporters who brought puto cheese, puto bumbong, pancit, and other merienda: Luisa Reuterskiold, Joy King, Omar Dumdum, Adam Gallagher, and Sara's Street Food!

Maraming salamat for inspiring PAMANA to strengthen our commitment of further reaching out to neighboring counties.
