Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Reignite Your Toastmasters Journey

Pamela Johnson, DTM

District 83 Director

In every community, there are people with ideas worth sharing: entrepreneurs refining their pitch, professionals stepping into leadership, students finding their voice, and individuals looking to communicate with greater confidence. Toastmasters clubs are uniquely positioned to help them grow, and this year presents the perfect opportunity to Level Up and showcase that value.

Across our district, clubs are stepping forward with renewed energy, fresh themes, and creative meeting formats. Members are discovering that Toastmasters is more than a weekly meeting—it’s a launchpad for personal, professional, and leadership transformation.

What Makes Toastmasters So Impactful Right Now

Communication Skills Are in Higher Demand Than Ever

Whether presenting virtually, leading hybrid teams, or speaking to diverse audiences, clear and confident communication has become a non-negotiable skill. Toastmasters provides a supportive environment where members can practice, experiment, and improve before it truly counts.

Leadership Development Happens Every Meeting

Every role, from Timer to Toastmaster of the Day, builds real-world leadership skills such as organization, delegation, and teamwork. These experiences mirror the challenges members face in their careers and communities, helping them level up their leadership, one meeting at a time.

Clubs Are Innovating to Meet Modern Needs

Many clubs are expanding beyond traditional formats by offering:

  • Business communication workshops
  • Leadership roundtables
  • Youth mentorship opportunities
  • Hybrid and online-friendly meetings

These approaches help members apply their skills in meaningful, real-world contexts while keeping meetings engaging and relevant.

Toastmasters is one of the few places where progress, big or small, is celebrated. Members gain confidence not only from speaking, but from belonging to a community that believes in growth, encouragement, and continuous improvement.

How Clubs Can Leverage This Momentum

  • Highlight member success stories
  • Host themed open houses
  • Partner with local organizations
  • Promote the practical benefits of Toastmasters, such as career advancement, confidence, networking, and leadership

When clubs share their impact, they attract people who are ready to invest in themselves and take the next step.

Every meeting is an opportunity to help someone discover their potential. As we move forward this year, let’s continue building clubs that inspire, empower, and transform lives.

Toastmasters isn’t just a program—it’s a movement fueled by people who believe in the power of communication.

Let’s Level Up this season, for growth, connection, and bold new voices across our district.

Spotlight on Steven Drapkin: A Rising Star in District

At just 19 years old, Steven Drapkin is already making a remarkable impact across Toastmasters District 83.

Serving as the District 83 Public Relations Manager for the 2025–2026 year, Steven has brought fresh energy, creativity, and innovation to how the District connects with its members.

Steven has transformed the District’s communication platforms, delivering exciting, vibrant, and visually engaging promotions that have elevated District messaging. Working alongside longtime Webmaster Tom Somers, DTM and fellow Toastmaster Ravi Shankar, DTM, Steven has played a key role in developing the District’s new interactive and dynamic website, set to launch in May 2026. The result is a site designed to be informative, engaging, and—most importantly—fun.

Beyond Toastmasters, Steven is a highly motivated and goal-driven entrepreneur. He launched his graphic design business while still in high school and has since expanded his skills into branding and marketing strategy. An avid reader and self-taught learner, Steven continually seeks opportunities to sharpen his craft.

Steven also has a strong passion for professional wrestling, which started when he was a small child, watching pay-per-view wrestling shows with his Grandpa Joe. He began competing in amateur wrestling as a junior in high school and now trains for professional wrestling at the Worldwide Wrestling Dojo in Bristol, Pennsylvania. His

coaches are the current TV wrestling star Orange Cassidy (All Elite Wrestling) and Cheeseburger, who owns the school and is a wrestler for Ring of Honor. His interests extend to other combat sports, including boxing, Muay Thai, and judo.

He wrestles as Joe Mancini and you can follow on the following accounts:

As a dedicated member of Speak and Lead Toastmasters, Steven exemplifies service and leadership. In his role as Vice President of Public Relations, he not only promotes the club but also created an educational newsletter and hosts a learning series to help members strengthen their communication skills.

Just recently, Steven was recently appointed to the advisory board of the international nonprofit organization, Cauliflower Alley Club.

These activities exemplify his exceptional discipline and determination, as evidenced by his ability to manage his time effectively while fulfilling the responsibilities of an entrepreneur, athlete, Toastmaster, Advisory Board Member, Public Relations Manager, and Club Vice President of Public Relations.

Steven’s accomplishments, leadership, and commitment—especially at such a young age—make him an inspiring example of what’s possible through passion, learning, and service in Toastmasters.

New Members Get Swept into “Spring Cleaning” at The Live Wires Open House

By Melissa DeCesare

Temperatures were chilly outside, but the IEEE Live Wires Toastmasters Club (#7328) was all about Spring on 4 March 2026 at their annual Open House membership event. Planned with a “Spring Cleaning” theme, the Live Wires welcomed prospective new members to polish their pace, declutter their stage fright and freshen up their presentation skills.

Eight guests requested membership applications, with four already submitted. An enjoyable Open House for all, it was as successful as it was fun!

As a hybrid experience, it allowed attendance in person or online. That flexibility was paired with a strong PR effort that included a banner, flyers, handouts, an IEEE staff newsletter article, and cupcakes with a QR code.

The well attended event featured a potluck with chili, vegetables, fruit, desserts and drinks. In total,19 guests joined 22 Live Wires members to participate!

Kadian Grant, DTM, District 83 Program Quality Director, got many laughs with her entertaining speech. The lively Table Topics discussion engaged the room and showcased the welcoming environment of the Live Wires Club. Guests included IEEE’s Chief Human Resources Officer Cheri Wideman and Director, Learning & Development, Sandy Kusant. The Live Wires Toastmasters Club is proud to have the continued support of IEEE, and their recognition of the Club’s benefits.
