PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Dear Fellow League Members,

We're down to 31 days before our election and what we do now MATTERS.

FIRST: Each of us need to reach out to our friends and neighbors and make sure that everyone gets the message: be informed (Vote411.org) and get voting (learn more at Vote.org or if you are registered here in Lee County, lee.vote).  Mail in Ballots were just mailed out - so keep checking your mailbox - it should be there soon if you've signed up for mail-in voting. And tell everyone that their vote does matter - don't let yourself or anyone else get "psyched out" and think otherwise!

SECOND: Get educated! Education sessions are available from multiple sources.

Saturday, October 3rd: The LWV of Lee County has a program at the Collaboratory looking at the 3 Florida wide Constitutional amendments and local ballot initiatives - particularly Single Member Districts and term limits for our local constitutional officers. See below for the link and you can register here.

Thursday, October 15: Did you miss our September discussion on Amendment 3 which proposes reductions in Homesteaded property taxes.  Or maybe now that you've heard some of the issues and concerns around Amendment 3, you realize your neighbor needs to be educated as well. The Floridians for Democracy Institute and Florida Tax Watch will be holding a virtual program on Amendment 3. flyer is below, and you can register here.

Looking beyond the election, our League's first luncheon of the Season will be on Wednesday November 18th when Chris Holland, Partner in Holland and Knight will be sharing a focus on the US Supreme Court. He'll take a look back at the 2025/2026 Session, a look forward at 2026/2027 and maybe most important the infamous "Shadow Docket". BTW, we'll be using a new tool for registration this year so you can pay in advance with a safe and secure website. Try it out and register for this important session here.

In League,

Cathie
