Neighborhood Cleanup

This Saturday at 9 AM

Join us this weekend for our fall cleanup, as we prep the neighborhood for an El Niño winter. We'll meet at 9 AM under the Temple Oak for coffee, donuts, and game planning.

At 12 the packer truck will be meeting us under The Temple Oak. See below the route we have been going with the truck. If there is a need for any other alleys, please tell us ASAP so we can plan accordingly.

A blue route line is mapped across a city street grid with various landmarks and street names in the background.

Wiffle Ball in the Park

Great to see so many neighbors get together the first weekend of October for a pickup wiffle ball game. Shout-out to Laurie for organizing.

Be sure to pay attention to your SASS emails for future opportunities!

🎃 Sign Up for Our Neighborhood Trick-or-Treat Map!

Hi Neighbors,

Spooky season is officially here! To help our neighborhood kids (and kids at heart) plan their trick-or-treating route this year, we’re setting up a neighborhood Treat Map.

If you plan on handing out candy, displaying fun decorations, or participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project (allergy-friendly treats), please take a moment to add your house to our map:

It only takes a minute to fill out, and it will help families see which porch lights will be on during trick-or-treat hours.

Thanks for helping make this Halloween fun and safe for everyone!

Springdale Soil & Spades

Hi y'all! It's Rachel, current SNA President, roommate of The Temple Oak, and Purdue Extension Master Gardener Intern.

October is Leave the Leaves Month

Leaves and other organic matter, like logs and dried stems, play an important role in your garden. You can make a huge difference for wildlife and the environment by leaving your leaves.

There are so many wildlife species that depend on fallen leaves. From moths, butterflies, and fireflies that often overwinter in the leaf layer to reptiles and birds that use it as a foraging location.

You can take advantage of nature's oldest recycling system and add the fallen leaves to your garden beds. There's a whole ecosystem including microorganisms that will break down these leaves into rich fertilizer that replenishes nutrients in your soil.

An educational infographic listing leaf disposal methods from most to least helpful is set against a multi-colored gradient background.

Congrats to Springdaganders Jessi, Kelli, and new big sister Mary on their bundle of joy they've recently welcomed to the world, Aurora!

Got a sprout to shout? Reply to this email; we'd love to tell the world (or at least Springdale)!

The John Boner Farm is looking for volunteers!

Upcoming volunteer opportunities

This Thursday, October 22nd 5 - 7 pm = Compost Turning

The great compost turning of 2026.  Our compost needs this so badly.  We will turn and then probably tarp over for winter.  It will be very messy and very rewarding - volunteers who help will be able to get free compost in spring.

Tuesday, November 3rd 5:30 - 7 pm = Winterizing Refrigerated Container

Since production is over, we will be cutting power to our refrigeration and insulating it for winter.  Come help us deep clean the container and learn how we insulate for the off-season winter months.

Thursday, November 5th 5 - 7 pm = Wash Day Pots Part 2

We have recently received a donation of assorted pots - along with our own planting and harvesting supplies - everything needs to be cleaned before storing away for Winter.  Please come by and help - it's more fun and faster with many hands.

Tuesday, November 10th 5:30 - 7 pm = Deep Clean Storage

We have already begun organizing and inventorying the storage, but with new supplies arriving we could use another session of re-arranging & deep cleaning.

Thursday, November 12th 5 - 7 pm = Deep Clean Greenhouse

Wrapping up the season, we will deep clean the greenhouse with non-toxic cleaning products.  We will sweep, dust, mob, and clear out the old energy to prepare for the new season.

Tuesday, November 17th 5:30 - 7  pm = Seed-saving

We have saved a lot of seeds the past two seasons, and we want to organize these for a seed giveaway.  This will be a fun, indoor activity!

Thursday, November 19th 5 - 7 pm = Seed-saving

Again, we have A LOT of seeds to get through.

As always, we will provide all necessary equipment including but not limited to; gloves, dust-masks, hand tools, water, and snacks.
