Topics of discussion will include: Date: Monday, April 27, 2026 Time: 7:00 pm Location: YK Guild of Arts and Crafts, 113 Kam Lake Road (2nd floor), Yellowknife, NT  WILDLIFE AWARENESS TRAINING - MAY 9, 2026 NWTFA will be sponsoring Wildlife Awareness training on May 9, 2026. Participants will learn about wildlife activity, animal behavior, practical strategies to reduce the risk of dangerous encounters, safe response procedures, and deterrent options. Download our Wildlife Awareness Training information sheet for more details. NAV Canada will join us for a lunchtime presentation. Advance online registration is required. Registration fee is $25 for current NWTFA members and $65 for non-members. Coffee/muffins and lunch are included. The cost of this training is subsidized by NWTFA through fundraising initiatives such as Unsmoke Canada remote site clean-ups. Date: Saturday, May 9, 2026 Time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Location: Arctic Response Canada,101 - 349 Old Airport Road, Yellowknife, NT  ANNUAL MEETING WITH YZF AIRPORT MANAGEMENT NWTFA met with YZF airport management on March 27, 2026 for our annual meeting to discuss matters relating to general aviation facilities and services at the airport. Topics addressed included an update on YZF Gateway strategy and land use plan, upcoming runway expansion and increased military activity, provision of tie-downs, electricity and portable toilets, and potential for construction of private tent hangars. The meeting was our most positive to date and we're optimistic about future enhancements to general aviation amenities. Refer to the meeting summary on the NWTFA website for details of the discussion on each topic.   DISCOVER GENERAL AVIATION - VOLUNTEER PILOTS NEEDED NWTFA will be presenting another "Discover General Aviation" event in June 2026. This program was developed by NWTFA and is intended to familiarize aspiring pilots with general aviation through a seminary with presentations on learning to fly, pilot licensing, purchasing and owning aircraft, and more. Following the seminar, participants are offered an introductory flight with an NWTFA pilot. Our 2024 event was featured in the article "Dreaming of Learning to Fly? "Discover General Aviation" for Adults" in COPA Flight magazine. Such of the event depends on volunteer pilots, so please reach out to us at flyingnwt@gmail.com if you're interested in offering an intro flight.   PRIVATE PILOT REFRESHERS - SUMMER 2026 In lieu of a traditional Rust Remover seminar this year, NWTFA is planning to organize hands-on piloting skills refresher flights for members using their own aircraft. Refreshers will involve a short flight with a highly experienced pilot who will observe and guide you through various maneuvers and scenarios to provide constructive feedback with the goal of improving safety.
