Newsletter 19-August-2026 This Month's HighlightsMember SpotlightRuss Bowers' legacy with Jeeps started when his Pops brought home a brand new 1973 CJ5 Renegade. Russ loved that Jeep, and growing up riding in it helped shape a lifelong love of Jeeps and adventure. As a kid, Russ couldn't wait to get his driver's license because one day, that CJ5 was supposed to be his. Then, around his 15th birthday, his Pops sold it, replacing Russ' beloved CJ5 with a 1980 CJ7. Russ was heartbroken and mad. That CJ5 was supposed to be his Jeep. The 1980 CJ7 eventually became Russ' first Jeep; he kept it for years and later owned a couple of TJs, but he never loved another Jeep quite like that first CJ5. He never got over the one that got away. A few years after selling his last TJ, Russ decided it was time to find another CJ5. After weeks of searching, a 1976 CJ5 Renegade appeared on Marketplace. It wasn't exactly the year he had been looking for, but the seller's name caught his attention. The Jeep belonged to Guy, the son of Bob, one of Pops' oldest and dearest friends. Their families went back decades, and Russ hadn't seen Guy since visiting his family's place in Colorado sometime in the mid 1970s. Guy and his father had owned the Renegade since 1990, keeping it at their Colorado vacation home where it was used only a few weeks each year and stored indoors the rest of the time. Once Russ realized who was selling it, he knew he'd found the right Jeep. More than 50 years after that first CJ5 helped turn a Jeep Kid into a Jeep Guy, another Renegade has brought Russ back to where it all began, this time carrying a connection to Pops and a friendship between two families that has lasted generations. Just after making the purchase, Russ said: "I think Pops was smiling down on me from heaven last week!" Some vehicles become part of our story long before we realize just how much they'll mean to us. That's the kind of legacy we love sharing with the Driven Legacy community. Thank you, Russ, for sharing your Jeep and a part of your family's Jeep history with us. Driven Legacy DAWG of the MonthMeet Salem! 🐾🩷Salem is one of our Driven Legacy sponsored dogs through Denison Animal Welfare Group (DAWG). This sweet mama dog is 2 years old and weighs 49 pounds; now that all of her puppies have been adopted, Salem is finally ready for something she’s never truly had, a family all her own. Salem dreams of cozy couches, leisurely walks, and someone who’ll tell her she’s the best girl every single day. She’s a little shy when meeting new people, but give her a little patience and you’ll discover a gentle, affectionate sweetheart who just wants to give love and be loved in return. Salem has been living with a foster and is house broken; however, she isn’t a fan of being left confined by herself. She’ll thrive in a calmer home where she can feel safe, secure, and loved. If you'd like to meet Salem, please contact DAWG to schedule an appointment.Community Celebrations Congratulations to Gretchen Streilein and Richard Hunter on their completion of the Mustang Unleashed course at Charlotte Motor Speedway! 08/10/2026 08/07/2026 - Stephanie Villarreal's Birthday 08/12/2026 - Jewel Hiberd's Birthday 08/16/2026 - Lynette Olson's Birthday 08/19/2026 - Jacalyn Staten's Birthday 08/21/2026 - Joe Maenza's Birthday 08/23/2026 - Valerie Hiberd's Birthday Do you have a special event you'd like to celebrate with us?
