Happy birthday to us!

May is a big month here at YCBH, not only have we got a huge month of all things bike planned, but we're also celebrating as we turn 4!

What started as a pop-up Hub in 2022 by volunteers from Climate Action Yate & Chipping Sodbury (CAYACS) and with the help of Yate Town Council, has now firmly taken up residency in Yate Shopping Centre with a strong core of volunteers leading the way.

In this time, we've received over 2,400 donated bikes which have been carefully refurbished wherever possible by our excellent mechanics before finding their way to a new home (and importantly, not going to landfill!).

We've been joined by over 500 participants who have wanted to build their skills, confidence and knowledge both on and off the bike with our maintenance sessions and Rusty Riders cycling sessions.

But, without the support of our awesome volunteers, who have donated over 7,800 hours of their time to open the Hub, none of this would have been possible. So, as we celebrate all of these fantastic achievements, we also want to say a big thank you to the volunteers who keep the Hub rolling!

Bike to Park Run

This month, we're excited to get back to supporting Chipping Sodbury ParkRun as our volunteers take up spots as marshalls, help rack bikes and provide advice at The Ridings for Chipping Sodbury's ParkRun on 16th May.

We'll also be joined by the local police team who will mark your bike and add it to the bike register.

With an average of over 300 participants weekly, there can often be large numbers of cars at the event and so we're challenging you to ditch the motor and head over on two wheels instead - what better way to warm up!

Rusty Riders Returns

Our Rusty Riders sessions are back! The 90 minute sessions aim to build confidence for new and returning adult cyclists.

So, if you want to get out and about more on your bike but are feeling a bit rusty, or perhaps you'd like to beat the traffic jams, improve your fitness or save some fuel money by switching out a few car journeys?

If so, our "Rusty Riders" sessions could be just the thing for you!

These sessions will allow you to dust off the bike and brush up your skills in a friendly and safe environment. You can come to as many sessions as you like over the month for FREE and we encourage you to come to as many as possible!

In the 90 minute sessions you'll be able to ride in a small and friendly group based in Abbotswood. Our instructors will cover all the skills you need to get around safely by bike, from signaling and road positioning to route planning. Starting in a completely safe off-road location and progressing through the month to rides all around South Yate and beyond!

And if you haven't got a ride-ready bike handy? No problem! Just let us know on the booking form and the Hub volunteers will help kit you out before your first session.

Please note:

the sessions are only open to adults (age 16+)
places are limited so you must book and let us know that you are coming
no bike? no problem! just let us know on the booking form and the Hub will help kit you out
you must bring a road worthy bike, if you are unsure please attend a Dr Bike session at the Hub first to have your ride checked over (see the dates on our social media and website)
You should be able to ride your bike but no other experience is necessary
for insurance purposes we recommend you wear a helmet
The course will be held in Abbotswood, meeting outside the Abbotswood Inn and returning there for refreshments and chat after.
