Board Report A New Format for Our NewsletterYou may be used to seeing our Board Newsletter as a PDF attached to your email. We are transitioning to an email newsletter, because we believe it may be easier to develop and easier to access. We encourage your feedback, as we are always looking to improve how we communicate with our members! You can always contact the Board at sunprairiehistorical@gmail.com. Message from the Board PresidentWe are excited about the direction the Historical Society is taking in 2026. Our Board met in January to develop our goals for this year. We set goals around increasing our membership, fundraising, the Crosse House, community events, and educational and historical programming. We hope that annual goal setting will give our membership a metric by which to measure the success of their governing board, and provide a firm direction for our organization to continue to grow and thrive. We have several opportunities to get involved with the Historical Society or celebrate Sun Prairie's History in the coming months. On Sunday, April 26 starting at 2pm, will be hosting History Trivia at Eddie's Alehouse downtown. Bring your friends and your thinking caps and test your knowledge of historical trivia, including Sun Prairie trivia! The Crosse House will be participating with the City's Back to the '80's! Wine Walk, hosted by the Business Improvement District, on Thursday, May 7 from 5pm to 8pm. Take the opportunity to stop by the Crosse House, our historic home and headquarters, and enjoy a night out in lively downtown Sun Prairie! Over the summer, we plan to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Sun Prairie Restorations, which saved and restored the Crosse House. We will honor the history of the Crosse House and the folks who worked to restore and preserve it. If you would like to volunteer to help plan that celebration, please contact us! We'd love the help! We look forward to seeing you at our many community and educational events this year! -Alex Roberson New Member of the Historical Society BoardWe are excited to announce that Sunshine Anderson has joined the Board of the Sun Prairie Historical Society with unanimous Board approval. Sunshine was most recently the Museum Programing and Design Coordinator at the City of Sun Prairie Historical Library and Museum. Sunshine brings a wealth of experience with preserving and celebrating history and we thrilled to have them! Like all Board-initiated appointments, Sunshine will be up for re-election at the next annual Membership meeting in November. City Historical Library and Museum UpdateAs you may be aware, the City of Sun Prairie recently went to referendum to exceed the levy limit, and that referendum did not pass. Municipalities in Wisconsin have a statutory cap on the amount of tax they can levy, and the City sought to exceed that limit. The City indicated that if the referendum failed, they would need to cut services and programs. One of those programs that is under consideration for cuts is our partners at the Historical Library and Museum. The City Museum Board met on April 15, 2025 to discuss the future of the Museum and made a recommendation to hire a full time Limited Term Employee ("LTE") to keep the museum open for the remainder of 2026. You may find meeting times and agendas on the City's website. A Near Miss From the Spring Storms!
