Bring a chair! SPRING FLING"Went to the Springdale neighborhood Spring Fling (which was a fantastic party)." - Jesse Brown, our City-County Councilor What an incredible turnout for our annual Spring Fling! The energy under The Temple Oak was electric, and it was so wonderful to see neighbors, families, and friends coming together to celebrate the season. From the fantastic lineup of local food vendors to the live entertainment that kept everyone moving and laughing, the day of couldn't have gone better. We also drank more beer this year than any other past Spring Flings - thank you, Kismetic! Events like this truly showcase the vibrant eclectic spirit that makes Springdale so special. A Sincere Thank You An event of this scale doesn't happen without dedicated neighbors. We want to extend a massive thank you to our volunteers and social committee for dedicating your time, energy, and heavy lifting. A huge shout-out to our generous donors, an event like this is not an inexpensive endeavor! Every dollar contributed goes directly into making these neighborhood gatherings possible. It is also important to remember that our Neighborhood Association is powered entirely by neighbors helping neighbors. Our board members and committee chairs are 100% unpaid volunteers who dedicate their free time to organizing events, managing neighborhood business, and advocating for our community because we love where we live. When you support our events, you are supporting a completely grassroots, volunteer-driven effort. We’ll be tidying up streets and alleys to get Springdale looking fresh for the summer! We might be rescheduling or canceling this - didn't realize it was PRIDE weekend and don't want anyone having to choose between the two! Stay tuned. ![]() Master Gardener Tip of the Month It's Rachel, current SNA President and roommate of The Temple Oak. Last year I took part in Purdue Extension's Master Gardener Program, and I am currently an intern working on my volunteer hours! I have learned SO much and wanted to take up a little corner of the newsletter each month to share some of the things I have learned. ![]() Let's start with the basics. The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which perennial plants are most likely to thrive. The map is based on the average annual extreme minimum winter temperature. We in Indianapolis live in Zone 6b. If a plant is hardy where you live, you can plant it in the ground outside and expect it to come back year after year. In other words, it is a perennial. If a plant is not hardy in your area, you can still grow it, but as an annual. If you leave it outdoors as the temperatures drop, it will die and not recover for the next growing season. No sprouts this month. Got a sprout to shout? Reply to this email, we'd love to tell the world (or at least Springdale)! Conversations about Friendship I (Rachel) loved this quick takeaway from a recent podcast - click image or link below - a great reminder that building a friendly neighborhood starts with each of us just showing up for our immediate block. https://dearnina.substack.com/p/be-the-reason-your-neighborhood-is Near Eastside NewsNews From Our Local Friends Do you often find yourself with lots of leftovers? ![]() ![]() Admittedly not the Near East Side, but still neighborly and cool!
