Wreath Making Workshop

On November 14, we are excited to welcome back Kristina Linder who showed us how to build a hanging basket last spring. She’s going to teach us 'hands on' how to make a wreath, and will bring along supplies that we will need to preorder! Each person will leave the session with their own wreath, as long as they preorder supplies!

This will be a class limited to 25 people since we will need space to work. You’ll be required to forage and bring fir, salal, cedar, holly, coloured branches, clematis, and whatever else you’d like to use for your wreath, and if possible additional quantities to share. We’ll cover the wire form with a base of branches of fir (or similar) and then add to that. Kristina has listed what she has available for purchase to add to our ‘base’ plus our own foraged material.

To sign up, please press reply, add Lisa's email lisaod@shaw.ca, then complete the form at the bottom of this page. When completing the form, there are a few steps to follow carefully.

1) When choosing your wreath size, keep in mind that the WIRE FORM is the dimension that she’s selling and the finished project will be wider so if you are putting it on a door, that will matter. A 12" frame would give a pleasing proportion on a 36" door.

2) When filling the form out, please complete the line all across the page, including the totals. If you aren’t interested in an item, leave that line blank. The balls are all mixed shiny and matt. The greenery you forage will provide the bulk of your wreath. Anything you order will work as accents on your wreath. A couple of bunches of contrasting accent greens should be enough for a nice varied moderate sized wreath.

3) Deadline to reply to this email, adding Lisa (lisaod@shaw.ca) is Sunday November 8th (*ASAP*). Lisa will keep track of how many are coming, and the club will send out a notice when we get to 25 people. The club will collect the money ahead of the class and pay Kristina in one payment. Please pay via an E-transfer to the club at accounts@bowenislandgardenclub.ca. Please add your name and "wreath" to the message to recipient section. If you need to drop off a cheque, please add that to your sign up/order email and we'll make arrangements with you directly.

4) This is a working session so wear gardening clothes, gloves and bring clippers! OR you can buy new clippers from Kristina at a very reasonable price- see photo below. (Hand sanitizer removes sap/pitch)

5) Lisa will bring as many cones as possible from her various conifers…we’ll learn how to wire them to the form. There may be some small ones that a glue gun would work better on…up to you! The ones Kristina is selling are large. Susan will be bringing lots of green juniper. If you are able to bring a large quantity of a particular greenery, please let us know.

6) We’ll get as much done as we can in the 2 hour session and anything more can be completed on your own time. You will take all the supplies that you ordered home with you, on the wreath or ‘loose’!

This meeting will be held in the Legion at 1 pm. Look forward to seeing you there!
