Environmental Education for a Better Earth (EEFABE) Canada: Growing Stronger Communities Through Nature, Action, and Learning

Dear First name,

As September comes to a close, we are proud to reflect on a month filled with community engagement, environmental learning, active transportation, and meaningful conversations about reconciliation and climate justice. Thanks to our volunteers, participants, partners, and supporters for making these initiatives possible.

Honouring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, EEFABE Canada joined communities across Canada in recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Through our online advocacy campaign, we highlighted the connection between reconciliation, environmental stewardship, and climate justice. We reaffirmed that protecting ecosystems requires acknowledging and respecting the knowledge, rights, and leadership of Indigenous Peoples. EEFABE Canada also shared educational messages about:

  • Honouring survivors of the residential school system and remembering the children who never came home.
  • Recognizing First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities as original stewards of the land.
  • Promoting Two-Eyed Seeing, which brings together Western environmental science and Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK).
  • Supporting continuous learning, amplifying Indigenous voices, and creating more inclusive environmental education programs.

Community Biodiversity BioBlitz in Longueuil

In collaboration with our community partners, Fondation La Joie De Donner, we co-organized and led a successful Community Biodiversity BioBlitz at Michel-Chartrand Park in Longueuil, bringing together 12 community members for a guided exploration of local biodiversity.

Through hands-on observation and discussion, participants gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of protecting urban natural spaces and the role community members can play in conservation efforts.

Pedal to Nature: Community Cycling for Climate Action & Ecological Awareness

On September 19, EEFABE Canada collaborated with a Neighbourhood Climate Action Champion to deliver the Pedal to Nature event.

The program welcomed 14 spots across morning and evening sessions and focused on helping community members gain confidence in cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transportation.

Participants learned about:

  • Bicycle safety
  • Cycling etiquette
  • Safe riding practices
  • Basic preparedness for community cycling

The group then enjoyed a guided ride from Fred Young Park to the Black Creek Trail and back, experiencing local green spaces while practicing safe cycling skills.

As part of this collaboration, the Climate Action Champion generously donated:

  • Bike repair kits
  • First aid kits
  • Safety vests
  • Traffic cones

These resources will help EEFABE Canada continue empowering community members to cycle safely and confidently while promoting sustainable transportation.

We extend our sincere thanks to our partner and all participants who helped make this event a success.
