Every week brings another exciting announcement, another community partnership, and another opportunity to grow the game we all love. What started as a dream of bringing hockey back to our community has become one of the fastest-growing youth sports initiatives in northeast Kansas. This month marks one of our biggest milestones yetโthe official launch of Junior Scarecrows Youth Hockey. Registration is now open for the 2026-27 season, and for the first time in over 15 years, Topeka will once again field youth house league teams competing in the Kansas City Youth Hockey Association (KCYHA). Whether you're a longtime hockey family or someone who has never stepped onto the ice, there's a place for you in our hockey family. This national grant recognizes organizations committed to growing youth hockey and making the sport more accessible for new players. The funding will help provide equipment, player development opportunities, and support for new youth hockey families as we continue building the Junior Scarecrows program. We are honored to receive this investment in the future of hockey in Topeka. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. And a special thank you to Mallorie LaFarge, our Director of Philanthropy ![]() ABOUT BRIANNA DECKER A three-time Olympian, Brianna Decker has represented the United States both on the ice and behind the bench for over a decade. The Dousman, Wisconsin native played a key role on the gold-medal winning 2018 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team that claimed Team USA's first OIympic gold in 20 years, in addition to eight IIHF Women's World Championship winning teams (2019, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2011). Most recently, she was a part of the silver medal-winning 2022 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey team in Beijing, along with the silver medal-winning 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship. Decker, who played her college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, was the recipient of the 2012 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given to the top NCAA Division I women's ice hockey player each year, while also leading the Badgers to a national championship in 2011.
