Serving as Missions Mobilizers

"There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."

— Paul of Tarsus, Ephesians 4:4-6

One Body, One Mission

One of the most encouraging things a believer can witness is the body of Christ functioning the way God designed it to. Not one person carrying it all. Not one church doing everything alone. But many members, many gifts, and many backgrounds moving together in one Spirit toward one calling.

This is exactly what we are seeing as we prepare for a Kairos course beginning May 25th here in Dumaguete. Three senior pastors, each leading significantly impactful ministries of their own, have set aside an entire week to invest in the discipleship of those who attend. Six local churches have been actively promoting the course. Personal invitations have gone out far and wide. This is not a program. It is the body of Christ assembling itself around the Great Commission.

We have a handful of slots still to fill, but we are anticipating God to move greatly and to glorify Himself through our prayers and labors. Who knows what fruit this course will produce and what ripple effects it could have for the Kingdom. Please join us in praying and believing for that.

A Generous Surprise

One of our standing prayers since arriving back in the Philippines has been for safer transportation. With the three of us sharing a scooter, getting around has been quite the risky adventure. Recently, a family at Calvary Chapel Dumaguete noticed our situation and felt a burden from the Lord to let us use their second family vehicle for the remainder of our time here.

We were humbled and overwhelmed to say the least. This is the kind of provision that only God can orchestrate. Matthew 6:8 says, "For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him." We did not have to explain ourselves or make a formal appeal. God simply moved in the heart of a willing family, and they responded in obedience. What a good Father we have!

Rooted in Fellowship

We have also been getting more deeply planted in the local community through two home fellowships sanctioned by Calvary Chapel Dumaguete. Week by week, we are meeting new people, studying the Word together, breaking bread, and encouraging one another in faith. For our family, this has been a tremendous blessing and a real source of life. Being on mission does not mean being without community. God has been kind to weave us into one here, and we are grateful.

Family Updates

Cherrybee is doing well through pregnancy and is growing right along with baby Betancourt, who is very active in the womb. We are so excited to meet him or her in early September! We plan to attend Cherrybee's brother's wedding before heading back to the United States in late June for the final stretch of the pregnancy. We are still trusting God for housing and transportation accommodations upon our return, and we know He will provide in His perfect timing.

It has been a blessing to see how Amaryah grows day to day. She has memorized her ABCs and is also learning to write them. She communicates with remarkable clarity and understanding. Her curiosity is limitless and her joy is contagious. We are committed to pouring Jesus into her and pray she grows to be a great light, empowered by the Holy Spirit to do God's will.

As we transition back to the US, I am also pursuing employment in a tentmaking capacity to help support our family while remaining committed to ministry. Timothy Sanford and I are co-laboring on two writing projects as well: a new discipleship course and a 12-month daily devotional compilation designed to help believers develop a more intimate prayer life. We are asking the Lord for clear vision and fruitful writing time as these take shape.

Prayer Requests

  • That God would move powerfully through the Kairos course
  • Continued provision and monthly ministry support
  • Discipleship opportunities as we transition back to the US
  • Effective writing time and clear vision from the Lord for the devotional and discipleship projects
  • Housing and transportation upon our return to the US
  • Peace and health for Cherrybee throughout her third trimester
  • That Amaryah would grow in the Lord and shine His light wherever she goes

Partner with Us!

If you feel led to partner with us as we continue in this work, we would be so grateful. Every gift helps us stay focused on the mission to mobilize and disciple Christians into the Great Commission. Thank you for your faithfulness to Jesus! God bless you.
